Janssen’s single-dose Covid vaccine can be used in pregnant and lactating women, the company has confirmed. Grupo de Expertos en Asesoramiento Estratégico sobre Inmunización (SAGE) que asesora a la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).
This is the first vaccine approved, either by the WHO or by other national regulatory entities, for pregnant women, since until now la recomendación en términos generales era posponer la vacunación hasta el final de la gestación.
According to SAGE, the vaccine is not only effective, but also has a very high level of safety. In fact, they indicate that it is not necessary to take a Covid-19 test before the vaccine, nor to delay pregnancy after having received the vaccine.
The Janssen vaccine will soon be available in Spain (it is expected to arrive on April 15 and 21 million doses will be available). It is also the first approved vaccine that requires a single dose to generate immunity against the disease caused by the coronavirus.
